Why Dogs Bark and How to stop
Excessive Barking
It is very important to understand why your dog is barking and what your pet is trying to tell you when he is barking before you can stop the behavior.
You need to understand the different reasons for his barking. First type is Warning/Alert: Telling you someone is about. Second type is Anxious barking: it often seems to be an act of self-soothing for many dogs. Third type is Attention-seeking: he needs you to pay attention to him. Fourth type is Boredom: barks to hear his own voice. Final reason for barking is responding to other dogs:
One dog starts barking down the street and all the rest of the dogs join in. Shouting at your dog to stop barking does not help. Do not give punishments like shock collars. Try to get your pets attention with a clap or whistle. When your pet becomes quiet, redirect his attention to something productive, then reward with a treat. Practice basic commands, like sit, and down, in order to shift your pets focus. DO NOT let your dog bark constantly outside. Train your dog to Speak and be Quiet.
