Many pet owners have stories of their cats seeing ghosts. They are seen following something with their eyes that we cannot see, but is very real to them. Since my own cat has been observed by me and seen by others reacting to a “presence” in the room that has captured her attention (and on more than one occasion), it is hard to dispute that there is something other-worldly happening.

Her attitude seems to be one of intense curiosity with this phenomenon and only a little distress; basically hers is a kind of acceptance of what she is seeing. It can sometimes occupy many hours of her day, not seeming to present any threat to her whatsoever.

A friend of ours recently shared a story with us about her tabby’s frequent visiting “spirits”. Some photos taken during a family gathering were a revelation to us all when we couldn’t help but notice faint images of some types of entities behind some of the members of the family being photographed. On another occasion their cat was observed to be reaching out a paw to something, meowing and following some invisible entity in its line of vision; her ears even perked up as though listening to sounds unheard by our friends.

These silent visitors seem not to be disruptive to their world or to their cat’s comfort level. This seems to lend support to research conducted on cats and dogs communicating quite comfortably with the other side of life. My cat has been in my lap, suddenly alert and staring at something over my shoulder. She has become so focused on something behind me for several minutes and tracking its movements.

I do not believe my cat is unique in her sightings; there are far too many instances of pets demonstrating a remarkable sensitivity to similar events. Cats returning to visit a family home, even leaving a physical imprint on a bed or chair, as was their former habit. When a powerful bond has existed between a pet owner and his beloved pet, this seems to produce a psychic connection between them not easily broken.
