About PuppyStairs

Every pet owner has had to deal with it—a very young or elderly animal that struggles to get up on the couch, bed, or other favorite resting place. For every season of a pet’s life, there are now Puppy Stairs.

The idea for Puppy Stairs came from necessity: after co-founder/designer Jeanne Wolfington’s 5-pound Yorkshire Terrier Raphael underwent neurosurgery, she searched high and low for a ramp or set of pet stairs that were stable and absorbed shock enough to prevent further injury, but found really nothing available. Most options were rickety and made of hard plastic; these poorly-constructed pieces would not provide the support necessary and would likely instead aggravate Raphael's injuries.

Wolfington and her business partner Krystal Hanson decided to design a solution that would not only serve the needs of Raphael—and other animals like him—but also be durable and blend with home décor. After a few failed prototypes, they hit upon a durable, high-density industrial foam that maintained its shape under significant weight, and Puppy Stairs was born. The company later expanded upon their modular cubes with ramps, and increased its fabric selections. Since its release, Puppy Stairs have been recognized by veterinarians and pet health professionals alike for its joint-friendly, sturdy design, which outperforms similar products.

Recently HealthyLife.net's Wendy's Animal Talk had an in-depth interview with Puppy Stairs co-owners Krystal Hanson and Jeanne Wolfington (available online). Television shows that have profiled Puppy Stairs include Petkeeping with Marc Morrone (a television program produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia) and The Christopher Lowell Show.

Puppy Stairs, which are endorsed by vet professionals across North America, help precious pets get up and down off of sofas and beds safely. Each step is actually a self-contained cushion constructed from durable, high-density industrial foam. Cubes and ramps, attachable to one another with strips of heavy-duty Velcro, are available in a variety of washable cover surfaces and colors. This unique, lightweight design protects growing, aging, or aching joints while providing owners with an attractive solution that’s easy to move and configure. Despite the name, Puppy Stairs are perfect for cats, kittens, ferrets, bunnies, or any four-legged friend!

At some point—whether due to age, illness, or injury—a pet is going to require some help getting around. Puppy Stairs provides the lasting support through every season of a pet’s life.
